Local information

There are three services which serve the community area. The 372 operates between Dumfries, Sandyhills and Dalbeattie and the 372a just between Dalbeattie and Southerness. Where appropriate these buses serve Carsethorne, Southerness, Colvend, Rockcliffe and Kippford. There is also the 825 between Dumfries and Dalbeattie. This operates on school days only. It follows the B793 from Caulkerbush to Dalbeattie thus missing Colvend, Sandyhills, Rockcliffe and Kippford.

You can use this page to feature your local club or society.  Just email your information to enquiry@colvendcommunity.co.uk

The Colvend Produce and Makers market is a small friendly market but still big enough to show off some of the best in local food and crafts. In normal times it takes place on the fourth Saturday of each month from March to November from 10.00am to 2.00pm.  Keep checking our events page to see when it is going to start again.

Colvend and Southwick Community Council as with all the other Community Councils plays an important role in allowing members of the community to raise a variety of issues.  The Dumfries & Galloway website has a comprehensive overview of the structure and duties of Community Councils.  Click the link here to go to their Community Councils' page.  The Scottish Government has also has a website devoted to Community Councils.

For over 100 years the Colvend Southwick and Kirkbean Parish has held a sale in aid of church funds on the second Thursday of August.  Sadly this year it has been decided, in advance of specific government advice to cancel the sale.  We hope it will return in 2021.

The sale normally takes place at Colvend Public Hall.  Renowned for the bargains to be had people come from miles around to see what they can find and join in the fun,

In the centre of Colvend, diagonally across the road from the Colvend Public Hall, Colvend shop and the Treats and Eats Cafe is Colvend Primary School. It is a small, rural school that serves the villages of Colvend, Rockcliffe, Kippford, Sandyhills and Caulkerbush and has some 30 pupils. Jane Alexander is the Partnership head teacher and the school has an active and enthusiastic Parent Council.

The parish boundary and community council areas are not quite the same.  The Parish of Colvend, Southwick and Kirkbean incorporates some of the Kirkbean community council area.  There are two churches within the parish.  A third, Kirkbean Church closed in November 2010.  It is now a private dwelling.
