Local information

The 372 is the bus service which runs between Dumfries and Dalbeattie on the A710 coast road.  You may have to change buses at Sandyhills.

Due to covid-19 the timetable has been frequently changing but it looks as if services are about back to pre-Covid.

Follow the link below for the latest official timetables on the Dumfries & Galloway website.  .  Scroll down for the 372 service.  Note that this is the most reliable source of timetables.    The timetables on the bus stops may also not have been updated.

You will appreciate that covid-19 has affected the activities of many of the organisations listed.  Contact them for the current situation.

The Colvend Produce and Makers market is a small friendly market but still big enough to show off some of the best in local food and crafts. It takes place on the fourth Saturday of each month from March to November from 10.00am to 2.00pm.  Keep checking our events page to see how for the latest information.

The Colvend & Southwick Community Council normally meets the first Thursday of each month in Colvend Public Hall at 7.00pm with the exceptions of January and August when there are no meetings.  Occasionally this can vary but you should find the date of the next meeting on the front page of this website or refer to the last minutes on this page.  Due to covid-19meetings are currently being held via Zoom.

For over 100 years the Colvend Southwick and Kirkbean Parish has held a sale in aid of church funds on the second Thursday of August.  Sadly this year it has again been cancelled.  We hope it will return in 2023.

The sale normally takes place at Colvend Public Hall.  Renowned for the bargains to be had people come from miles around to see what they can find and join in the fun,

In the centre of Colvend, diagonally across the road from the Colvend Public Hall, Colvend shop and the Treats and Eats Cafe is Colvend Primary School. It is a small, rural school that serves the villages of Colvend, Rockcliffe, Kippford, Sandyhills and Caulkerbush and has some 26 pupils. Jane Alexander is the Partnership head teacher and the school has an active and enthusiastic Parent Council.  The Partnership is the Colvend, Kirkgunzeon and Palnackie Primary Schools.

Saving Scotlands's Red Squirrels is a partnership project that is working to ensure red squirrels continue to be a part of Scotland's special native wildlife.

The project controls grey squirrels by live-trapping them then despatching the animals in the most humane way possible.  They welcome feedback on both red and grey squirrel sitings which can be recorded on their website site.

Their website is very comprehensive.  There is a link to it at the bottom of this page.
