Local information

Saving Scotlands's Red Squirrels is a partnership project that is working to ensure red squirrels continue to be a part of Scotland's special native wildlife.

The project controls grey squirrels by live-trapping them then despatching the animals in the most humane way possible.  They welcome feedback on both red and grey squirrel sitings which can be recorded on their website site.

Their website is very comprehensive.  There is a link to it at the bottom of this page.

The parish boundary and community council areas are not quite the same.  The Parish of Colvend, Southwick and Kirkbean incorporates some of the Kirkbean community council area.  There are two churches within the parish.  A third, Kirkbean Church closed in November 2010.  It is now a private dwelling.

The Solway Firth Partnership is an independent charity that works to support the local communities while respecting, protecting and celebrating the distinctive character and natural features of our marine and coastal area.

Visitors to the area may be surprised how far out the tide goes.

Below you will find a link to help you plan your activities whether it involves bathing or sailing.  This is caculated for the next seven days for Hestan Island.

The picture shows a particularly high tide at Rockcliffe in February 2014.

There is some wonderful walking within the community area.

Below are some suggestions.  You are invited to send photographs taken on any of the walks in the area to enquiry@colvendcommunity.co.uk and we will try and publish them.
