Bus Services within the Community
There are three services which serve the community area.
The 372 operates between Dumfries, Sandyhills and Dalbeattie and the 372a just between Dalbeattie and Southerness. Where appropriate these buses serve Carsethorne, Southerness, Colvend, Rockcliffe and Kippford.
There is also the 825 between Dumfries and Dalbeattie. This operates on school days only. It follows the B793 from Caulkerbush to Dalbeattie thus missing Colvend, Sandyhills, Rockcliffe and Kippford.
Between Dalbeattie and Dumfries there is a more direct service which misses the coast, services 501 and 505, but the 372 is the pretty route.
Timetables can change at any time. It is always worth checking the latest timetable on-line. For alll the Dumfries & Galloway bus timetables click here. Scroll down for the 372/372a service.
The timetable requires careful study as buses from Dumfries can terminate at Southwick, Sandyhills or Southerness but there are five buses that can take you all the way from Dumfries to Dalbeattie, though you may have to change buses at Sandyhills. The destination board may say Sandyhills not Dalbeattie.
Likewise from Dalbeattie there are buses that terminate at Southerness but there is the possibility of five buses all the way from Dalbeattie to Dumfries. Again you may have to change at Sandyhills and the destination board may say Sandyhills not Dumfries.
Most require a change of bus at Southwick or Southerness.
One of these services only operates on schooldays and one does not operate on a Saturday.
There are three 372 buses on a Sunday that go all the way between Dumfries and Dalbeattie without a change of bus being required.
You can find a more comprehensive timetable at the Traveline Scotland website.
The Southwick bus stop is beside the war memorial in Caulkerbush. On the Traveline timetable this is described as "Sandyhills, Southwick, opp Road End".
There are also reminders of how the various stops have changed if you can find the all stops page. There are no longer Post Offices in New Abbey, Colvend and Southwick. The tea room in Rockcliffe is no more and the building still exists but you will find no indication in Mainsriddle of the location of the police station.
Buses can be hailed outside of the timetabled stops.
