CHAIRMANS ANNUAL REPORT
The Chairman reported that it had been another successful year for the Community Council and mentioned it wouldn’t be the same without the Robin Rigg Fund. The Chairman also thanked the Community Council for their contributions. Throughout the year, some members of the Community Council have attended network meetings for the Review of the Amended Scheme of Establishments
The Community Council have made good choices with which projects to invest in. The projects using Robin Rigg money in 2017 have consisted of the Colvend Public Hall roof repair and installing three new skylights. Funding for the Colvend Golf Course wash down bay, which keeps everything cleaner. They have also funded two new noticeboards for the Colvend Shop. The new playground at Colvend Primary School is one of the bigger projects supported by the Robin Rigg Fund and is going well. The project is also supported by LEADER and the Stewartry Area Committee of the Dumfries and Galloway Council. S. Pain is doing a good job of leading the sub group and the project is still ongoing, scheduled to be finished by the end of August 2018. Work has just finished at the Tourist Information Centre at Colvend, funded by 2018 Robin Rigg money.
The position of the Community Council can be difficult if someone presents a problem with planning, for example the extension of the caravan park at Rockcliffe. However, the CC wants to protect the community both environmentally and socially, but also look to the future to keep local businesses thriving through tourism. The CC is open to airing problems any member of the public may have and we will advise on who they should go to for help if it is not ourselves.
The Chairman mentioned he had received a letter of resignation from P. Harper and thanked him for his contributions to the council. I. Connell was another who was thanked for his support, as he has not been present at a meeting for over a year.
The Chairman closed his report with a special thanks to S. Gourlay for being an outstanding secretary and keeping everyone up to date on network meetings.
